LESS than an hour after Informanté published a video cautioning Namibians to drive safe on the country’s roads, the dashboard mounted camera of a truck captured a tragic motor vehicle accident in which six people lost their lives on the road between Okahandja and Otjiwarongo.
According to the Otjozondjupa Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Naukale Andreas, five men and a minor child were killed instantly when the car they were travelling in collided head-on with a heavy truck on the road on Sunday afternoon. She added that the actual cause of the accident is currently still under investigation.
“The six occupants of the vehicle, five adult men and a minor child were killed instantly. The driver of the truck only sustained minor injuries. The impact completely destroyed the smaller vehicle.”
She said the accident occurred in a bend in the road near the Farm Success about 70 kilometres outside Otjiwarongo.
Deputy Commissioner Andreas requested the public to assist the police in identifying some of the victims who died in the Toyota Corolla with registration number N12715ND”
“Because all the occupants of the Corolla passed on as a result of the collision, we are having trouble positively identifying all of the victims. We need people who had family or friends on the road travelling in the white Corolla and who did not arrive at their intended destinations to contact the nearest police station as soon as possible.”
Video footage taken from the dashboard mounted camera of the truck shows that the driver of the white Toyota Corolla lost control in the bend of the road after a suspected tyre burst. The driver of the Corolla seemingly lost control over his vehicle and ended up in the wrong lane before slamming at high speed into the oncoming truck.
