HOT off the heels of releasing her critically acclaimed debut album ‘Pride of CilQ’, fearless Namibian femcee is onto a great year! Starting this weekend, Lioness will feature on Coke Studio Africa paired alongside Kenya’s first lady of hip-hop Nazizi and South Africa’s newest rapper, Boity.
The sizzling rapper last week released her video titled, “Tala”, which topped Namibian charts across different platforms and garnering over 12,000 views on YouTube within a week.
Namibians will taste the sound of Africa as the anticipated ‘Coke Studio Africa 2019’ new season airs on TV in Namibia and across Africa. Ahead of the show’s premiere, Lioness said of their incoming hip-hop collabo, “When you have rappers in the same room, you always expect a very competitive atmosphere but we all treated it as a collaboration first and foremost. I picked up different styles from Nazizi and Boity. They were sweethearts and absolutely professional.”
“Coke Studio Africa is a life changing experience. It was a big surprise and relief when I got the call,” she added.
‘Pride of CilQ’ come after the success of Lioness’s popular EPs: ‘ILL3’ (2015) and ‘ILL4’ (2016). Often embracing her heritage while fusing modern hip-hop elements with old school – rap influences, Lioness is famed for bringing forth refreshing sounds to Namibia’s hip-hop scene, with hits like “Dreams”, “Sauce” and “Bad” featuring Slickartie.
As an independent artist, Lioness has been through ups and downs in the music industry in an audacious quest to achieve her musical aspirations and continue to create, release and distribute her music across Africa. With her elevation on a Pan African platform, her collaboration with Nazizi and Boity will be an ode to female power and will be remembered as one of the most electrifying performances in the history of Coke Studio Africa.
The new season will feature over 25 of Africa’s brightest stars, including Mr. Eazi, Laylizzy, Winky D and Chef 187. From 9 February, audiences can watch Coke Studio Africa on One Africa TV in Namibia.
