Intelligence sources of the Affirmative Repositioning movement inside and outside the Namibian Police have informed its leadership that certain activists have become the targets of possible arrest or other forms of intimidation by the current regime.
According to a statement by Job Amupanda, the lead activist of the AR movement, activist George Kambala and he were identified as the main targets of the police. He said other leading activists might also be targeted.
“At their meetings they have decided that they will do it whether legally or illegally. We would like to inform them that we are ready. We will never stop standing with the poor,” Amupanda said in an official statement
The leadership of the AR movement issued the statement in the wake of the arrest on Friday of activist Dimbulukeni Nauyoma, who was on the mission of the movement to prevent the regime from inflicting harm on the poor by illegally demolishing their homes.
“The regime inflicted harm on Nauyoma and refused him medical treatment for five hours. We had to resort to the High Court, in the middle of the night, to get a court order. He remains in hospital under doctor’s observations. We have been visiting him and he remains committed to fairness and justice for our people.”
Amupanda described Nauyoma as a political detainee and said that he sent a message from his hospital bed that activists and the poor should never give up.
“We must never give up the fight young friends, this struggle will grow and grow and find its rightful people. AR is all our people have and if we get intimidated by arbitrary and political detention we will be making a serious mistake. These arrests must strengthen us. We must remain on the side of the poor.”
According to Amupanda, Nauyoma will appear in the Katutura Magistrate Court. Nauyoma is set to appear on the charges of instigating public violence, obstructing police officers while performing their duties and unlawfully grabbing municipal land and erecting illegal structures on it.
“Our lawyers have been working hard over the weekend, spending sleepless nights, to ensure that we fight on even during these difficult circumstances.”
He said the AR will also begin a series of legal actions against the regime and its political police. In these actions the AR will also engage other offices such as the Ombudsman and City of Windhoek on a number of issues.
With regards to becoming targets of the regime Amupanda said that the movement and its activists are fearless and will never stop standing with the poor.
