PRESIDENT of the Namibia Volleyball Federation, Hilary Imbuwa, has applauded the Under-20 boys for their great performance at the just ended Region 5 Youth Games where the team received its first bronze medal in that category.

Speaking to Informanté yesterday, Imbuwa said that the federation worked hard into put the team together to take part in the Regional 5 Youth Games, which are currently underway in Gaborone, Botswana

“From our side, that is what we were working towards in order for the team to participate in the games as this team was only put together this year after the national trials,” he said.

He added that it is an achievement, as it is the first time that the team is competing on the medal category.

The Under-20 boys took home the Bronze medal, beating Lesotho 3-1, and narrowly losing to South Africa on Sunday.

Meanwhile, in the para-volley category, two Namibian referees were awarded medals for being among the top 3 best performers in both their theory and practical referees exam during the Para-volley (sitting volleyball) training held in Maputo Mozambique last week.

The two awarded referees are; Wendy Geises and Fillemon Kacks Amupadhi.

In the swimming category, the Under-20 team scooped three bronze medals after day three in both the men and women’s categories.

Heleni Stergiadis and Corne le Roux both won bronze medals.
