Thousands left without phone connections

Thousands of Telecom Namibia customers in the Namibian capital city have been struggling since Monday this week to do business via their fixed line telephone services After a technical glitch cut them off from the rest of the world.
According to Telecom Namibia’s spokesperson, Oiva Angula, the switching trunk in Windhoek for voice-based services partially failed.
“This, led to a number of complaints from customers across the country who were unable to use their fixed-line services to make a call to Windhoek. Similarly, Windhoek-based fixed-line customers were also unable to call mobile numbers or receive calls from South Africa and other international destinations.”
Angula said Telecom Namibia engineers have been hard at work to restore the Windhoek switching network as a priority. Some of the services have been successfully restored.
According to Angula all other exchanges throughout the country were not affected by the failure, except when they were dialling some Windhoek numbers.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
