Large amount of dagga intercepted in Windhoek

Vigilant members of the Namibian Police acting on intelligence received from the public arrested a Namibian truck driver that arrived in Windhoek from South Africa and his Tanzanian accomplice at the Windhoek Truck Port after they were found with almost 37 kilograms of the illicit drug in their possession.
According to the acting commander of the Namibian Police’s Public Relations Division, Deputy Commissioner Hophni Hamufungu, the two suspects were found in possession of 34 blocks of tightly packed cannabis. The two bales of the illicit weed weighed 36.68 kilograms and have an estimated street value of at least N$733 600. 
“The illegal drug was imported into the country from South Africa by a 62-year-old truck driver and was delivered to the second suspect, a 34-year-old Tanzanian national residing in Windhoek. The suspects were arrested when the delivery was made and loaded in the second suspect’s vehicle.”
According to the Deputy Commissioner Hamufungu the duo is scheduled to appear in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on Thursday. He said they are both charged with possession of illicit drugs as well as dealing in illicit drugs
The arrest at the Windhoek Truck Port is the second such a success by the Namibian Police within a month. During the second week of December last year police at the checkpoint east of Keetmanshoop arrested a South African truck driver when they found almost a quarter tonne of cannabis stashed in the vehicle he was operating. 
In this case the illicit drug was packaged in ten huge bales weighing a total of 244 kilograms and it had an estimated value of N$2 440 000.
