A 78-year-old woman only known as Matsuis was attacked, seriously assaulted and robbed by a gang of five much younger men calling themselves Boko Haram at Tubusis.
According to Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, Erongo Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, the gang of young men beat the old woman who is a pensioner, with rocks until she fell to the ground. They then allegedly proceeded to kick her all over her body before robbing her of all her valuable possessions.
“The Boko Haram gangsters threatened to kill the old woman and took two bottles of liquor known as Rumba and a pair of Adidas shoes. The gang also damaged the old woman’s shack and even stole the sheets of corrugated zinc with which her house was built.”
According to Deputy Commissioner Iikuyu the 25 year-old Rudi Wensley Uwu-Khaeb, Sedukia Boykie Kandukira (23), Arnacs Naruseb (20), Nevel Isaak Uwu-Khaeb (19) and the 21-year-old Marcellus Hoebeb were subsequently arrested by the Tubusis Police.
He said the five Boko Haram gangsters appeared at the Usakos Magistrate’s Court on the day before Christmas.
“None of the accused persons were granted bail and their case was postponed until 21 January 2019 to allow detectives to investigate the matter further.”
The accused persons face charges of assault with the intention to do grievous bodily harm, assault by threat, theft and malicious damage to property.
According to Deputy Commissioner Iikuyu the old woman received medical attention but he said she has since been discharged from the clinic and is back home at Tubusis.
